P.I.C.S. cherry blossom party, Japan

This flyer has been made by Hanako Fukozu and myself for P.I.C.S.

The party will take place in Yoyogi Park in Tokyo where people will eat and drink around cherry blossoms.
Here the cherry blossom chopstick encapsulates eating and spring-related patterns in each flower that tell little stories and allows the viewer to have his or her own interpretation.

Because the brand is all about attracting women, this design is based on the molecular structure of Testosterone. I inverted the colours so that the molecule also looks like snowflakes. (The designs being made for a christmas product)

This design has a fresh/cooling shower gel texture.

Strong masculine structure with an icy feeling.

Other version of a strong structure for a more "chocolaty" perfume.

This logo reassembles the themes of hot air balloon and the region of Moselle - the Moselle being represented by the mirabelle plum and the river that shares the same name as the region.

I made this into a hardcover book with the text next to the images.

The Guards arresting Joseph K.; m.morelle, ink on paper & photograph
The Guards, symbol of the law, arresting Joseph K. The law can be compared to a straight structure, but as in the book it is a complete non-sense, I distorted the structure to reflect that.
The image is spread over two pages.

K. troubled; m.morelle, ink on paper & photograph
It is the first time K. gets confused about everything happening around him: I used a blurry background that also look like an X ray image of what's happening inside him..

K. seems very attracted by women with big eyes, and it comes back several times in the book. It might be one of the things he is accused of, as he flirts with quite a few of them.

The first audience; m.morelle, ink on paper & photograph
This represents the 1st audience K. has at the court, when he lets himself lose his temper, denunciating the non-sense of the whole procedure.

The student and the woman; m.morelle, ink on paper & photograph
A woman who pretends to be forced to please a student of the Court to preserve her husband's job. But in fact she doesn't seem to force herself so much, and get kissed by the student in front of K., who she was seducing 2 mins ago.
Use of net : in French, to "ensnare somebody" translates into "to catch someone in one's nets", so I used a net structure to illustrate the fact that the woman catches men with her exhorted sexuality.

K. fainting in the attics; m.morelle, ink on paper & photograph
This is when K. visits the attics of the Court, where lots of people work, and almost faints because of the heat and the oppressing feeling this place has. I like how the structure give this impression of depth and that it forms a sort of hole for the exit.

This picture illustrate how K. is gradually affected by his trial in his work. The two tall figures represent the assistant manager and a client, who K. couldn't face to take care of. At that point, Kafka writes "When [they] leaned over his study [...], K. had the feeling that over his head the two men he was seeing taller than usual were discussing his fate"

This is a perverted little girl showing her bum when she speeds up the stairs, she also belongs to the Court.

Again a perverted little girl that belongs to the Court, trying to seduce the painter Titorelli sliding up and down a twig in between a crack in the wooden wall.

Hierarchy at the Court; m.morelle, ink on paper & photograph
Hierarchy at the Court: there are "avocaillons" (an invented word for "lesser lawyers"), lawyers, and very important lawyers. And all of them, especially the lesser ones, are very fond of themselves and arrogant, wanting to be perceived as very powerful.
The important lawyers are completely out of reach, it is said that they have never been seen by anyone.
I used this dotted structure to show the multiplicity of civil servants that work for the Court

In the Church, K. is called by a Father. This a crucial moment where K. has the option to either escape from his own trial, or sentence himself for death...

This is the end image, when K. gets executed by the guards, stabbed in the heart. I wanted a very aggessive structure behind. The image is spread over two pages.

The aim of this animation is to show how natural landscapes are replaced by industrial or city spaces. We start with what we think to be a stary sky, which in fact proves to be lots of buildings lights. Then we discover an oppressive virtual three-dimensional environment that illustrates the level of control that humans are trying to exert over everything, even nature.

Animation in response to the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ? by Philip K. Dick.
Focuss on the biological degeneration. From top left, clockwise: The 1st circle tackles the similarities between androids and humans; the 2nd the "Chicken Heads"; the 3rd the effects of the radioactive dust on beings; the last is the "Kipple" that actually will end up covering the world.

This drawing was made for a collective exhibition in Brick Lane about Utopia. In my notion of Utopia, a perfect world would not exist without some rules - otherwise it would quickly drift to a big mess. So I thought about how life could organize itself around a structure.

Linocut print book

In his bedroom there were seven wardrobes. They oppressed him but the landlord wouldn't let him get rid of them.

During the night, weird shadows reflected themsleves on the doors.

During the day, he could see creepy faces in the rainures of the wood.

All of this was driving him mad !

It was time to find a solution.

He tried to find a use for each of the seven wardrobes: in one he would put his TV, in another one his cooking equipment, then his radio... He filled six of them...

But the seventh one remained empty.

He kept having nightmares about it !

So one night, he dragged his cover...

...and decided to sleep in it. He had the best night ever !!

Going to work

Everyday, they take the same route.
And everyday, they pay less and less importance to what's surrounding them. The beauty of nature is taken for granted, they don't appreciate it to its true worth anymore.

Inspired from when I followed a woman with red stiletto heels from London Bridge train station to her work.

Typography created for my mum, Ewa Karpinska, who is a watercolourist. The letters are made with water and pigment let to dry on glass. Then I scanned the glass, it created the shadows.

Escaping from the Green Witch of Grennwich

This book was created as a documentary on South London. I discovered these little people who live amongst us, but Londoners don't notice them because "they are too tired" (a Shooshoo quotes in "The Daily Shooshoo").
